HISTORICAL HIGHS
Leaving behind a career as an attorney in San Francisco, Gary moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream. He created a literary management firm, representing writers and writer-directors. That was only the beginning, because in 1988, he launched his producing career with a number of lower budget theatrical features and films for television. From there, Goldstein developed and co-produced the critically acclaimed PRETTY WOMAN with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. Directed by Garry Marshall, PRETTY WOMAN went on to become the highest grossing live-action film in Disney's history, garnering the People's Choice Awards for Best Picture, Best Comedy, Best Actor and Best Actress, as well as both a Golden Globe Award and Oscar Nomination for Julia Roberts.
Next up, executive producer of UNDER SIEGE for Warner Bros. Directed by Andrew Davis and starring Tommy Lee Jones and Steven Seagal, UNDER SIEGE received two Oscar nominations -- and Goldstein followed this triumph with THE HUNTED at Universal, starring Christopher Lambert, Joan Chen and John Lone. Soon after, Goldstein optioned and developed the original screenplay "Dark Territory" as UNDER SEIGE 2: IN DARK TERRITORY for Warner Bros. – a sequel to his previously acclaimed hit. Goldstein produced the comedy RINGMASTER and the much heralded adaptation of THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES, a thriller for Lakeshore Entertainment and Sony, starring Richard Gere and Laura Linney. His credits, experience, box office and reputation have made him a respected producer within the ranks of Hollywood.
Gary’s passionate approach to life extends well beyond his role as film producer. A graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and recipient of a J.D from Golden Gate University School of law, he is a lifelong learner, whose core values exalt service, integrity, teamwork, and brokering inspired people and brilliant ideas.
From its inception, Gary has contributed his time and energy to HUB (Humanity Unites Brilliance), an organization committed to sustainable solutions for all and accelerating an end to the cycle of poverty.
